The first one that we will look at is the Litter Robot. When your cat enters the dome, the litter robot detect the cats weight. Seven minutes later, the globe rotates, sifting the solids from the clean clumping litter and depositing the wastes in a large drawer that can be lined with a standard garbage bag. The unit is recomended for a household of up to four cats per unit. It is not recomended for kittens or cats that weigh less than five pounds.

The next one we will talk about is the scoop free automatic litter box. This box is similar to the scoop free slider that I talked about in the last article, but this one automatically scoops after each use. Once again, this box uses the silica crystaline litter which comes in replacement trays made to fit the litter box when the tray that is in the box becomes saturated. You can set the delay to five, ten or twenty minutes after the cat uses the box for the rake to sweep the solids out of the litter box into a covered container. The litter box also tracks how many times your cat is using the litter box, helping you to keep an eye on your cats health.

One of the newest litter boxes on the market is the Cat Genie litter box. This box uses a permanent, washable litter. The liquids drain through, and the solids are scooped out and liquified. Then all of the liquid wastes are flushed down the drain. The litter is sanitized and then dried with warm air. The litter box comes with the equipment needed to hook it up to a cold water line. The wastes can either be fed into a toilet, or down a laundry room drain. Accessories that are available are high sidewalls and also a cover for the litter box.

The final automatic litter box that I will look at is the Litter Maid litter box. This box uses standard clumping litter, and operates using either batteries or a power adapter. An infrared detector detects when your cat uses the litter box. Then the box rakes the litter after ten minutes, depositing the wastes into a plastic container that also has an activated charcoal filter to help control odors. This box also has a carpeted ramp up to the litter box to help control the spread of litter outside the litter box.

There is one more option that you can consider. This is actually the most economical and green solution to the problem of your cat eliminating its waste. I have just never had the patience or time to use this method. I am talking about toilet training your cat. I have added a link here for an e-book on training your cat to use the toilet. If anyone uses, or has toilet trained their cat, let us know how it went.

Great post. I did a post, about a book I checked out on toilet training your cat. I gave up on it, my cats would play with the plastic the book suggested to put between the seat & bowl for a secure feeling for the cat. My husband uses Arm & Hammer multi-cat clumping litter & it works great. I've looked at those self cleaning pans & visualize my cats freaking out on it when it cleans. Thanks for the research.
