Who is writing this blog?

Nina Gruberova, my Exotic Cat Loonah of NosgothImage via Wikipedia

It occured to me that, aside from the introduction blurb on the sidebar, I don't think that I have ever told people who I am, my experience with cats and why I have chosen to write about them.

Growning up, my family had hunting dogs, mainly German Shorthairs, although they did have a Brittany Spaniel and a German Wirehair. I had a couple of friends who's familys owned cats, so I got to know a little bit about them, but I really had very limited cat experience until I left home.

At the time I got my first cat I was still married, and my wife wanted a pet. The apartment we lived in did not allow pets except for cats, and so I took a trip to the local humane society. (BTW, this was in the days prior to the internet!) This particular branch of the humane society had their cats in large cages, usually with each cage having one cat. In one, there was a very pretty red tabby persian, and when I reached in with my fingers to pet it, it started licking my fingers. Of course, I took that cat home! The name that it came with was "Mabel", but because of the big yellow eyes, my wife changed the name to Topaz.

From that point on, I owned persian cats. I have had pure white cats, black cats, a Himilayan, and other colors. My current two are Chinchilla colored persians. They have had names like Onyx, Jade, Diamond, Sapphire and other names related to precious and semi-precious stones. This covers about the last 30 years of cat ownership.

It also has not always gone well. I have had one cat that died because of a urinary tract blockage. I had one cat that died from complications caused by diabetes. I have also had a cat that lived about 25 years. All my cats have come from the humane society.

After researching the last article on cat breeds, I may try to find an Exotic shorthair the next time I want to adopt a new family member. Or possibly a Birman. I don't know how hard either will be to find, but hopefully I have many years before I have to start looking.

I have been enjoying researching and sharing information about cats. Several articles have come from people here or on facebook and twitter suggesting topics, which saves me from trying to think up topics on my own! (Just kidding, I have a lot of topics to cover yet!)

If you are enjoying this blog, please ask your friends to become followers! The more followers I have, the more motivated I am to produce this blog!

  2. I have just found your blog through Twitter. My mummy had a persian kitty called Bella who sadly passed away in November. She had a complete change around when she saw me and now she in a Cornish Rex lover.
She says that she really misses her Bella - so I try really hard to give her lots of extra love and kisses.
    I have a blog too

I love to feature cool pictures of other cats, so if you have any do send them over to me.
    Big Kisses,
    Cheryl.
